ABOUT LEOPHIL
LEOPHIL is a contemporary womenswear label based in Sydney and has been founded in 2018 by fashion designer Valerie Jantz. The label’s philosophy is to create beautiful, modern and timeless fashion from the best natural fibres with the least possible harm to the environment. The Australian Slow fashion label designs fashion that feels contemporary, effortless and versatile.
With a love and appreciation for artisanal skills and traditional crafts, the label creates pieces for a modern wardrobe - conscious and well made garments that are free from seasons.
LEOPHIL’s founder Valerie Jantz is a graduate from the Academy of Arts and Design, Basel, Switzerland and formally trained in millinery. She has gained her broad knowledge and skills in textiles and fashion design through training at Unit:Markus Huemer in New York and Didier Angelo haute couture atelier in Paris and through her career in fashion styling.
With her work, Jantz has been nominated for the National Design Award 2021 (as part of the Melbourne Fashion Festival) and is a former recipient of the Swiss Design Award.
“It is a fact that the fashion industry has a greatly negative impact on our environment on many levels - from the extensive use of chemicals to the underpaying of workers. To be as sustainable as possible has been my goal from the beginning. With my label LEOPHIL, I feel responsible to have a business that makes conscious decisions in every step of the design process.“ Valerie Jantz, Founder and Designer, LEOPHIL //
Some of LEOPHIL’s key values are to work with natural and sustainable fibres and reduce plastics as well as supporting an ethical, mainly local production. By creating high quality garments, we can increase the longevity and wearability of a product and offer fashion that is well designed and purposeful.
